SEMBACH, Germany — Dr. Louis D’Angelo, superintendent for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Europe Central District, announced the selection of Ms. Elizabeth Roybal as the new principal of Aukamm Elementary School.

Roybal brings a strong background in instructional leadership, literacy development and collaborative school improvement to her new role. She most recently served as the assistant principal of Ramstein Elementary School, where she supported students, staff and families within one of the district’s largest elementary communities. Her leadership is grounded in communication, professional learning and building highly effective collaborative teams.

Before joining the Central District, Roybal served in the Americas Mid-Atlantic District as a PreK–5 Literacy Instructional Systems Specialist (ISS). In that role, she worked closely with educators across Puerto Rico to implement the College and Career Ready Standards for Literacy and improve student proficiency. She is especially proud of the strong partnerships she built with administrators, teachers, support staff and garrison leadership.

Roybal began her career as a Teach for America corps member, teaching middle school English language arts in Las Vegas, Nevada. She later taught and served as a school administrator for National Heritage Academies in Colorado and gained additional administrative experience with K12 Online Schools. Her broad instructional background across multiple states and systems has shaped her belief in the power of teamwork, communication and high expectations for all learners.

“Ms. Roybal brings a deep understanding of literacy, strong leadership experience and a collaborative spirit that will serve the Aukamm Elementary School community well,” D’Angelo said. “Her commitment to communication, professional learning and student achievement make her an excellent fit for this leadership role.”

Roybal earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is personally connected to the military community—her father proudly served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force—and she considers herself a lifelong “military brat.”

Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, reading, crafting and spending time with friends and family. She looks forward to joining the Aukamm community and partnering with staff, students and families to support student success.
